This residential course in the attractive environment of Christ's College, Cambridge is intended for professionals having responsibilities in radiological protection, nuclear safety, public health or related subjects in industry, government departments and local authorities. It is suitable either as a refresher course for those established in the field or as a thorough introduction to newcomers. It is particularly valuable to those expert RPAs seeking recertification from RPA2000. The Course is addressed by an outstanding panel of speakers, most of whom are internationally recognised authorities in their fields of work. An important aspect of the event is that there is ample opportunity for informal discussion with speakers and other delegates both during the day and also during the social gatherings arranged each evening as part of this residential course.
Since its inception in 1990, the Cambridge Summer School has become established as one of the leading education and training events available to the European radiological protection community. The syllabus has been extensively revised in order to assist delegates to demonstrate and achieve qualified expert status, as required by the Euratom Directive (96/29/Euratom). The revised syllabus is based on that set out under UK regulations on the knowledge and training required by a Radiation Protection Advisor (the equivalent of a qualified expert). In particular, the course includes the "core competence" requirements and topics are covered so as to provide "basic understanding" and "general awareness", and a good introduction to the "detailed understanding" topics, as appropriate (see www.srp-uk.org/rpa2000).
The number of attendees will be strictly limited to ensure full participation during the lectures, workshops and interactive discussion sessions. The workshops will provide useful material to delegates in developing their portfolio of education, training and experience and so support their attainment of qualified expert status. There is also an Optional Assessment anyone taking the assessment is entitled to double the SRP points.
